11. Optional blue route

Here you can make a walk from the city maiden to the water tower, see the blue route on the map. This extra walk is about 500 meters there and 500 meters back. If you do not want this extra walk go to route instruction 12. You want to do the extra route? Then walk into the (bicycle) path on the left of the city maiden. Walk straight on for some time. You will pass the marina and a small bridge (photo 17). Turn right and cross the tracks of the tram and cross Jachthavenweg (photo 18). On your left you see the buildings of Vattenfall and Waternet. At the end of this street named Pramenpad you will see the water tower of the pumping station at your left (photo 19). The statue called ‘Lady solid’ is in front of it. Walk from here back to the statue of the city maiden.

The Vattenfall building (Pramenpad 6) contains a cold power plant that is cooling the buildings at the Zuidas.

The water tower is 40 meters high and has been here since 1961. The tower can hold 2.3 million liters of water. This water supply is necessary to be able to absorb large pressure fluctuations on the water supply network. The water is supplied via pipes from the dunes area near the city of Haarlem.
