Possible answers to the questions:

1. Can you think of different reasons to have birdhouses here? To stimulate birds to come here and to attract birds that eat oak processionary caterpillars.

2. Why should there be a lot of surface water in Buitenveldert? To store water especially when there is a lot of rain.

3. Is the water in houses in Buitenveldert coming from ground water or surface water? Most fresh water is surface water coming from the river Lek (which is part of the Rhine). After a long cleaning process underground in the dunes near Haarlem the water goes by pipelines to Amsterdam.

4. Which sports other than rowing is the Bosbaan used? Skating and fishing

5. Photo 33 shows ‘Buitenveldert House’ on Kalfjeslaan around 1950. What has been built here now? A high level residential care centre for the elderly.

6. Which people do you think will have a roof structure put on their house? People with money that want to have extra rooms for their kids or more place to work at home.

7. Why is this playground a special one? This playground was built in 1969. Aldo van Eyck developed a unique playground for each neighbourhood in Buitenveldert.
