10. Cross Amstelveenseweg

In front of you is the often busy Amstelveenseweg. Carefully cross it straight ahead. Unfortunately, it is puzzling here where you have to walk as a hiker. Use the zebra. Walk straight on using the footpath into the Amsterdamse Bos until you see the track of the Museum tram and a statue (photo 16).

You can see the track of the Museum tram here. From April to October the Museum tram runs every Sunday between the Haarlemmermeerstation in Amsterdam and Amstelveen. From 1915 to 1972, this railway was used, mainly for freight transport. For more information, www.museumtramlijn.org.

Next to the railway is a large statue, called the city maiden. The 1883 statue was made by Mooy and Schierholz. Until 2009, this statue stood at the east entrance of the Vondelpark. It is made of sandstone.
